Some Prince for the weekend

2016 continues its ruthless felling of national treasures and pop icons with the loss of one of the most talented of them all, Prince.
The shock death of Prince at age 57 has stunned fans and artists alike. He sold over 100 million records worldwide and won seven Grammy awards amongst many other accolades. He was very talented from an early age and reportedly played all 27 instruments on his debut album!

My favourite Prince song “When Doves Cry” from the “Purple Rain” soundtrack from 1984. It was his first American number one and topped the chart for five weeks there. Billboard named it their number one single of the year. He plays all the instruments and it is unusual in that it has no bass line, Prince removed it to make the track seem starker.

Here is a famous song of Prince’s which Tom Jones later covered. This is “Kiss” from 1986 which got Prince his third American number one and a Grammy award.

Prince at the Brit Awards in 2006 where he performed a medley of his then current singles “Te Amo Corazón” and “Fury” and followed with past hits “Purple Rain” and “Let’s Go Crazy”. This performance shows off his fabulous guitar work and showmanship.
