Some social comment from two soul superstars for the weekend

This week it’s two songs from two giants of soul/funk music, one lost to us in 1984, the other sadly departed just weeks ago.
Marvin Gaye released “What’s Going On” in 1971 which heavily commented on social issues and is considered a landmark album in pop culture.

Prince wasn’t known for social commentary but he released the album “Sign o’ the Times” in 1987 whose title track referred to a number of issues and news stories of the time such as AIDS, nuclear holocaust, poverty and the space shuttle Challenger disaster.

These brilliant songs are from those albums.
